A throbbing heart to the thought of AI

This are my recent thoughts on the ever looming push of LLMs into every aspect of how we should live, and interact with the world, and the consequences therein.

Lately, I’ve not been sleeping properly - I’ve not been sleeping, because anytime I close my eyes to try, my heart throbs.

This happens because I feel the entire world is moving too fast because of AI and I have no clue what is happening. Perhaps this is perfectly normal for everyone, especially individuals who work in the SWE field or it’s just me. I really hope it’s just me, then I can justify it’s in my head.

It doesn’t really feel good moving into a future that seems to have no place for whatever you’ve spent your teens and early twenties getting really good at.

Everyone has unique metrics by which they value someone, for individuals who value themselves in what they know and are capable of doing, how should they find a place for themselves in a world where machines built to imitate a human mind can perform such tasks much more faster and relatively cheaper.

In all honesty, this future looks bleak. I wish not to delve into the economics of this, because I lack the expertise. However, one thing almost everyone is at least an expert in are “human emotions”, and the most notable one, GREED, which seems to be stronger by day.

I think the reason this happens is because we have less trust in ourselves as humans to collectively make the right choice and choose ourselves no matter. Things like this https://x.com/MrBeast/status/2049273335742435617 just go so far as to reinforce this thought.

I don’t trust this future we are heading into, not because I’m not excited to the cool, life enhancing technologies the future holds, but because I don’t trust the actors who are investing to make this future a reality.

As a collective, we really need to pause, ask questions, and ensure we are heading into a future where we can hold our head high and boast to our kids “we did things right”.

Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them” - Frank Herbert, DUNE.
