My Journey With Mathematics

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been interested in numbers and logic, but somewhere along the way I missed some experiences which prevented me from truly following the path of a mathematician. I don’t think it was a question of intelligence; I think more it’s a question of “will” and more so a lack of a leading personality to strike me towards this path.

I’m 26, and the older I get, the more I feel I will regret it if I don’t understand it. I know the beauty of mathematics, being its student; the duality is extremely fascinating, how very complex interrelations could be reduced to a line of variables and some basic relationship/connection is stupendous.

Well, I can’t afford to make excuses anymore; I really love mathematics, and I’m fascinated by it. I’ve been learning it for the past year because my ultimate goal is to become an ML researcher and also get my MSc in AI/ML.

I started with “AOPS - Introduction to Algebra”: This, by far, is the best book for getting started; it taught me a lot of fundamentals with enjoyable examples that challenge you and make you a better amateur mathematician (lol); it also improved my critical thinking. Also set me in motion for learning more advanced concepts.

Currently I’m learning “Head First - Statistics” (Head First, one of my best book franchises) and “Introduction to Linear Algebra - Gilbert Strang” in combination with 3blue1brown YouTube videos. I also plan on taking Khan Academy Linear Algebra.

I hope to complete these books before EOTY along with “Hands-On Machine Learning - Aurelien Geron”.

This would give me the insight to pursue Quantitative Finance. My end boss :-)
